LEGEND OF THE BLACK SKIES · FOR SCI-FI ADVENTURE GAMERS

Your ship. Your crew.
One galaxy that never pauses, and never slows down.

Every captain is the hero of their own story. In Legend of the Black Skies, ten thousand of those stories can collide in the same stretch of sky, at full speed. Yours might begin with a secondhand ship and a license fresh off a station clerk's desk, or somewhere far stranger.

About the game

Adventure first.
The galaxy remembers.

You're a swashbuckling adventurer with a crew that depends on you. Take a contract off the station board, run a blockade through contested space, and limp home with a hold full of salvage while your chief grumbles about what you did to her engines.

  • The crew People, not hirelings.

Every crew member has short-term goals and life goals of their own, and helping them get there unlocks real rewards. Their unique abilities are yours to call on, and morale is the throttle: keep it high and they work at full speed; let it slide, and everything they do for you slows down.

  • The pacing You set the tempo.

Your loadout controls the pacing, with a feel Gloomhaven players will recognize: standard play stays smooth, but in a crisis every decision carries a payoff and a risk. Flip the ship's AI on and your decks fly the tactics, swapping with the situation, so you can focus on strategy; or keep it off, take fine-grained control, and live for the thrill of the fight.

  • The galaxy Alive, and it answers back.

Thousands of persistent NPCs fly the same ships by the same rules: gambit-style decks of cards, where the right condition swaps in a whole different deck. Change the plot, and human game masters decide how the world answers.

  • The scale No time dilation. By design.

Every mechanic was shaped from day one so that fleets can converge at full speed, applying lessons from teams that operate at planetary scale: Discord, Google, Uber, Netflix. The biggest battle in the galaxy plays exactly like your first one.

  • The night shift Your decks stand the watch.

Log off and your captain keeps flying. You become one of the galaxy's NPCs, running the same card decks as everyone else, pointed at whatever slow work you want done: trade, haul freight, run missions, gather resources, survey systems, stand patrol, clear out pirates. The grind happens while you're away, so your hours at the helm stay for the fun.

Concept plate of live play: a five-card hand held above the ship's capacitor rail while an ambush warning demands an escape burn.
Concept plateThe loadout rail mid-crisis: five cards up, six capacitors, and an ambush that wants the escape burn you just spent.

If your shot misses in the chaos, it's because the target dodged or a wreck drifted into the lane, never because a server hiccuped. The full story of how it plays lives on the game's own page, and the eight-part engineering series at jeffrey.blog explains how the no-slowdown promise holds.

Start solo. Fall in with a crew of captains. End up in the battles they name eras after.
